"I thought they kidnapped you. I didn't know you'd get paid", Matt answered, deadpan. Logically, he knew they (probably) couldn't have demanded Mohinder to work for them just because, but he hadn't really considered payment to be a thing. Having a safe place to stay and resources in the building had seemed like a fair trade already.

It struck him that Mohinder would likely be kind of famous after the whole thing, too. The one with the cure. ... to say nothing of Matt himself and Peter, if their New York tape was widely recognised. Which he'd sort of gotten the impression of.

Oh well. Matt could make himself insignificant if he wanted. He was much more concerned for the other two.

He drank his coffee and picked up the last of his orange (a strange taste combination but not altogether unpleasant) and followed Mohinder, thinking.

"She needs to be enrolled in school again. For her own sake." In more ways than one. Learning was great and all, but that's also where you made friends. "But I don't think California's a good idea. We should be different from her parents."

Not to mention that while Matt really did love California, the state held a lot of history for him as well that he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to go back to. At least not yet.
